The Ranch

Catching up , bees and possibly a garden

Catching Up

2 minutes

I do believe it is time for a check-in. Things have been turning green on the ranch and I LOVE IT!!!! It is so pretty when it's green. Now, we do have a ton of weeds and the grass is growing, well , like a weed, but it keeps me busy for sure.

I love the green!
Our fountain is running!!!

We have been busy doing a little traveling and had one college graduation from our Ranch Hand #2 who is headed to Law School in the fall. Sent ranch hand #4 to France for a month to play tennis at a tennis academy. MacGyver and I took him to get settled. It is so pretty in France!

Nice, France

Ranch hand #4 has come home ready to start coaching/teaching tennis. He also became a year older. No more teenagers on the Cedar J.

Ranch Hand #2 and I headed to Nashville for a few days after graduation. Checked out the Ryman, went to The Bluebird Cafe on 3rd and Lindsley and got a photo with the gal who wrote "Troubador" for George Straight!!!! Leslie Satcher and Monty Holmes wrote the song and we met Leslie! The gal has a set of pipes that will knock your socks off!

The Ryman is iconic! Ive now been to Nashville three times!!

Now more ranch stuff:

I have two nucs of bees this year. That means I have two beehives set up this year. I lost my bees two years ago and decided to take a break last year and now I am giving it a go again this year.

This photo is after I got them all settled in their new homes. They come in these long boxes that look like a giant shoe box. Then you have to put them in the hives. The nucs come with frames, with bees already very busy. I just let them get used to their new digs and then place their frames in my hives.

I went out the other day to check on them and discovered they were building brood below the frames. Meaning they were building comb and putting the babies in there instead of on the frames.  This can mean they are growing a new queen, or they have run out of room and are getting ready to swarm. Which means they are getting ready to fly the coop. Or in this case Fly the Hive!

I couldn't have that, so I had to go out and give them more room and try to convince them that I really am not that bad of a gal, and hanging out on the Cedar J really isn't a bad gig. I even sang to them!!!!

I know this looks like they are swarming but they really were just a little ticked off at me that I had disrupted their lives momentarily. When in all reality I was only trying to help them have more comfy digs!!! Trust me, they have since settled back in. But not after they let me know they were upset with me.....

I was stung through my suit.

I couldn't be too upset with the bees.  They were just being bees. I am going to keep the singing thing going though and see if I can soothe them that way! LOL!!!!

I even planted a garden. Ok, just one box, but a girl has to start somewhere! I am terrible at gardening but I keep trying. If anything I love playing in the dirt!

Proof that at least there is something in there. Proof is in the popsicle stick markers! LOL!

Have a great week!! Happy June!
